MINNEAPOLIS — “The Fall of Minneapolis,” a new documentary, presents an alternative perspective on the events surrounding George Floyd’s death and the subsequent convictions of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin and his colleagues.

The film emerged in a climate where Floyd’s death, captured in a widely circulated bystander video, ignited global protests and debates over race and policing in the U.S.

Produced by Alpha News, a local conservative outlet, and featuring interviews by former CBS Minnesota/WCCO news anchor Liz Collin, the documentary portrays Chauvin and his colleagues as victims of political and media bias. It challenges mainstream narratives and makes several contentious claims, including allegations of police being instructed not to intervene during riots, Chauvin adhering to police protocol, and assertions of a rushed judgment by Minnesota Democrats and prosecutors.

The documentary includes an interview with Chauvin from federal prison, where he maintains that his actions were in line with his training and criticizes his trial. Liz Collin, who conducted the interview, is married to Bob Kroll, the Minneapolis police union president at the time of Floyd’s death.

Both Kroll and Collin faced protests outside their home in 2020.

“The Fall of Minneapolis” is also linked to Collin’s book, “They’re Lying: The Media, The Left, and The Death of George Floyd,” which delves into similar themes as the documentary. The film is part of a broader discourse on the complexities and differing viewpoints surrounding the George Floyd case and its impact on American society.
