In a move that has captured national attention, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, known for his leadership at Tesla, Twitter (X), and Space Force, has revealed plans to personally visit the U.S. southern border. This decision follows the recent release of data by the Biden administration, highlighting the surge in unauthorized border crossings.
The latest report indicates that in August alone, 232,972 individuals were detained at the southern border. This figure does not account for those who evaded capture. When considering apprehensions across all U.S. borders, including the northern and coastal areas, the number for August escalates to a staggering 304,162. The cumulative apprehensions for Fiscal Year 2023 have reached 2,860,127, marking a significant increase.
Griff Jenkins, a reporter for Fox News, recently shared a video on social media, showcasing a train from Mexico, filled with individuals, some of whom were seen waving Venezuelan flags, en route to the U.S. border. Musk’s succinct response to the video was a simple, “Wow.”

In a subsequent statement, Musk elaborated on his decision to visit the border, saying, “I spoke with Rep Tony Gonzales tonight – he confirmed that it is a serious issue. They are being overwhelmed by unprecedented numbers – just hit an all-time high and still growing! Am going to visit Eagle Pass later this week to see what’s going on for myself.”
Musk’s concern extends beyond the border. He reacted to a video shared by Collin Rugg, co-owner of Trending Politics, which claimed that New York City is allocating over $1 billion for hotel accommodations for unauthorized immigrants over the next three years. Rugg also highlighted NYC Mayor Eric Adams’ estimation that the migrant crisis could cost the city approximately $12 billion in the coming three years. The video further showed Staten Island residents protesting the arrival of buses transporting unauthorized immigrants. Musk commented on the situation, stating, “This is a severe crisis,” on his platform, X.
Rep. Tony Gonzales, whom Musk consulted regarding the border situation, recently toured the area himself. In a subsequent interview with Fox News, Gonzales emphasized the urgency of the situation, advocating for legislative action to address the “catch and release” policy and to expedite deportations.
